You’re Just Another Pretty Face
Just this afternoon, I was beside a new girl at our school lounge. She’s well groomed, tall, fair skinned and meh… cute. She seems to be waiting for someone. I was “thinking” of a way to open a conversation but I was blank at that moment :-P
I had spent a few minutes of my “thinking” when one of my friends passed by who luckily is a friend of the girl beside me! So yeah, he introduced me to her and then after a few minutes, left – leaving me and that girl talking.
What happened to the conversation ya say? G’dang! There was no connection at all. She doesn’t even know what’s happening in the school! No content. Hate to say it but – she was just another pretty face. Oh well…
Alright, I’ll get to the point
One thing I noticed bout bloggers in their early stages is that they worry about their design too much (Ouch! Did I hit you on that one :-P). They spend countless hours working around their theme, counting every pixel, hitting the right hexadecimal code, plastering and arranging widgets, etc – that they lose time or if not, lose energy to create a good post.
Although yes making a “wow” first impression is important but when it gets to the point that you lose time on doin other important things, that’s where you’ve crossed the line. Think bout it, the delivery is more important than the first impression – you have this stunning design that gets people hooked for minutes but when they get to the content, they see nothing, they see fluff!
“You’re just another pretty face”
You don’t want that impression do ya? Of course not! So if you’re one of those guys who spend huge time on design, first thing you gotta do is… STOP, get a free theme or buy a premium one (Presentable is enough, it doesn’t have to perfect!) then crank up your content! Ignore the little things that you don’t like bout the template, concentrate on your content, on making money – after sometime, you’ll raise enough to get your own unique design. You won’t regret it!

Emails I Won’t Probably Answer
When I got home after my Karate class, it was round 9PM. Like any ordinary day, I flip open my laptop and read some emails…
CLICK! As I open the first email – guess what? Someone’s frustrated at me. Uhhh… Why? I didn’t answer his email. Let’s just say mister x did some of these things…
- Hi Carlos! - Oh c’mon guys, do some homework before sending me an email. I’m Carl Ocab, not Carlo, not Carlos and certainly not carlo cab!
- Too formal - “Dear sirs/madam” Geesh, sounds like you’re gonna tell me that I won the lotto BUT I have to send ya money first before I can claim my prize. Congrats on that ;-)
- Link exchange requests – “Hello, after going through your site, I believe that it’s beneficial for both of us to exchange links because my blog is top quality and my blog is PREDICTED to have PageRank 5 on the next update…” Argh, I’m getting tired of this…
- Nothing is working Carl! – “I can’t make money online Carl! I’ve tried everything and I still can’t make any money – please give me the magic pill!” Meh.
- Can I download your design? – Again, do some homework.
- I found this great tool… Or is that click my affiliate link ya say?
- We are a big company offering web services – And we have an email account that says @yahoo.com.
Let my rant be a lesson for ya
So yeah, mister x triggered this rant post with that single email – but nevertheless, let this be a lesson for ya when sending email to me and to others (Who wants to be called dear sirs?!).

Convert Your Graphic Designs Into Web Pages

How Web Design Normally Works?
Normally when you wish to engage a web designer (let’s say this designer is a guy) for a new website, he will start by designing the prototype on his Adobe Photoshop. When he is done, he will show this piece of work (most likely in PDF format for you to open with your common program “Adobe Reader”) to you for comments. That’s where you will work closely with him till he starts to convert all these designs into web codings (we called it “HTML”). These codings are very important because they are much smaller in size for easy browsing of information, represents some form of interaction with the visitors wherever necessary, and they are also more search engine friendly.
Can You Spot The Difference When You Are Surfing A Website?
There is a difference between graphic designs and web pages. They may look the same on the surface where one web designer could be designing in 80% codings and 20% graphics, while another web designer could be designing it in 80% graphics and 20% codings. But they actually mean a lot of difference. Usually, people will only design 80% graphics of their web page if they are on low budget and does not need much input from visitors. But that will mean their web pages will be very static and lack of interaction. A normal internet surfer will not notice whether they are designed in either ways. Even if you are on low budget, it is not recommended to use 80% graphics if you need to edit the web information from time to time.

Prototype web design graphics are usually in the Photoshop format known as “PSD”. Photoshop is a graphic designing program from a company called Adobe, widely used by many graphic designers out there. Adobe Photoshop is a great software for sure, but there is a very big problem over here.
It is usually the case where the graphic designer is not as logical as a web programmer to work on the web codings. Likewise, the web programmer may not be as creative as the graphic designer to work on the graphics. In other words, I believe most of the time that the left-brain simply cannot work well with the right-brain in terms of logics and creativity. I have hardly seen anybody who is extremely good on both web programming and graphic designing.

Whichever the standard you are choosing, I just wish to comment that loose codings (which don’t adhere to the standards correctly) may not necessarily be bad. Many websites are not well-formed and yet they are doing well in their online business. But of course, the good thing about adhering to the standards can mean the search engine spiders are able to crawl well on your side too.
