If you’re an Internet Marketer looking to make money online, blogging is a “must do” these days. Whether you use it to drive traffic to affiliate links and/or your other website(s) or you just want to document your findings; blogging can and will prove to be effective. The problem is, many people don’t understand how easy it really is to drive traffic to a blog, as opposed to a normal Website.

The following are some of the most effective techniques I’ve used in order to drive tons of traffic to my blogs:

Link Bait - Creating something that is so funny, useful, creative etc. that people just have to talk about is one of the most effective ways to get traffic to your blog. Whether you create a good program, write a very useful article or just crack a hilarious joke, good link bait can drive loads of traffic and built thousands of links pointing to your blog.

Guest Posts – Many bloggers just don’t have time to keep their blogs updated. Some have J.O.B’s (yuck) some go to school, and others have many other Websites to tend to on a daily basis and just don’t have time to research and write to their blog everyday. This is why many bloggers these days are allowing their readers the opportunity to write interesting articles for them. Finding quality, high traffic blogs (like this one) that allow guest posts can drive loads of targeted traffic to your blog in exchange for your quality articles.

Linking to and reviewing other Blogs – Web Logs are unique in their ability to easily track back-links and notify others when you’ve linked to them. When you find interesting blog posts, link to them and extend the conversation on your blog. Let your readers know what you agree with and what you disagree with. Once you’ve written your post and linked to the other blog, grab their trackback URL, which is usually shown after each post and normally looks like this: http://www.blog.com/post-title/trackback/and ping their site. With WordPress the place in which you insert this link is directly below your blog post. Many dedicated bloggers will take note and link back to you when they have a chance. This is extremely effective and a pretty common technique used today in the blogosphere.

Controversial posts – This one could be tied into “link bait,” but I felt it should be mentioned separately. The fact is, people like controversy and gossip. Arguing with a high-profile blogger or pointing out a double-standard ect. is extremely effective in both gaining direct traffic and in-bound links. I don’t recommend bashing someone just to bash them, but if you find a legitimate flaw that may be unethical or wrong, by all means point it out. People LOVE linking to this stuff because it flairs emotion.

So there you have it, 4 sure-fire ways to get tons of traffic to your blog. There are of course many other ways, but the above mentioned techniques have proven to be effective for me.

Of the four, I think the linkbait one is the most important. Attracting huge inbound links on the strength of clever writing is very difficult, however. Something i’ve only achieved a handful of times
