7 Ways To Easily Manage The Nastiest Time Whore - Email

I receive 10-15 emails everyday, although you can say that it’s not that much, but for a 14-year old blogger slash internet marketer like me who’s a full time student as well. It’s pretty dam hard to manage it.

In my everyday life, I spend around an hour just by reading them. It just keeps coming and coming all day long, it’s like a trap you can’t get out.

I can’t just sit here everyday reading mails so I thought of a solution to effectively save my time. I’ve been doing this for a month and boy I am happy to save almost 40% of my time.

So what did I do? Come and check it out!

Use Multiple Email Accounts

When you’re on social networking sites like MySpace, Facebook, etc… that sends loads of spam emails everyday, you don’t want to give them your main email address because all they do is flood it with those “name wants to add you, you received a new comment” blah blah blah…

So, what I did is set up a separate email address just to keep my main email safe and fluff-free.

Mold A Template For Frequent Emails

Emails like thanks you’s, advertising inquiries, etc. Most of the times have the same questions which, of course, need the same answers. So instead of writing the same message over and over again, you can use a template that you can just copy-paste and add something about the sender to make it more personal.

Create A FAQ Page

Even copy-pasting email messages consumes time because you need to read what the sender is trying to tell you and man, you gotta admit that it sucks when you receive the same emails twice or even thrice everyday!

What I did was I observed some big companies, Google, Microsoft… and some Big time bloggers and what did I find?

Their FAQ pages. Though I’m pretty guilty that I don’t have one, currently working on that!

Empty Your Inbox At The End Of The Night

If you miss to reply an email a day, the next day you’ll have one more email to answer and if you miss an email again, you’ll have two more. It’s a snowball effect.

Read & Reply

A bad habit of mine that I had months ago was to just read an email message and leave it behind and say to my self “I’ll reply to this later” I did that to all emails I receive everyday and from time to time, I’ve been forgetting the messages that needs an urgent reply. Resulting to low-quality crammed replies.

Delete It.

If an email really wasted you that much time, then delete it. Let the www take care of it.

Nahhh, just kidding! But really, there are emails that you need to delete, things like chain mails, or some email from a guy who copy-pasted an article to promote his website =D, link exchanges, etc.

All those things do is to waste your time, so you better delete it, they won’t appreciate your reply that much anyway.

Something I Have In Mind

Email is really the nastiest time whore in the online world, people go crazy over it. So the very best thing to do when you receive truck loads of emails everyday is to duplicate yourself, hire someone to do the job for ya. Just remember to separate your girlfriend’s emails though :P

Or what I was doing for a while, not checking it. Makes your workload seem lighter, but then you don’t get the messages from your hosting provider that your site will be down.

No, just joking. Good post. Thanks.

Haha! If you’d do that for more than a month, you’ll get email overload that will take forever to reply!

Great tips Carl!
I don’t get tons of e-mails, well, I don’t get tons of business/blog related e-mails so I don’t spend a lot of time reading e-mails… yet. But these are great tips and will definitely use them when I’ve got to.

Yes, keep this so if you go popular, you won’t get too shocked on how much time you spend on emails. thanks anyway

You can also try some other email providers or just flag your subscriptions as spam ;)

Hey Carl - great post and I’m also getting around 10-20 emails per day, which can be hard to handle with school work as well. I like the recommendation to put the emails in different accounts - at the mo I’ve got all my stuff in a single Gmail account.

Honestly, I only use one email account but I use folders and sometimes gmail to separate email messages
