1. You pick a profitable market

There are thousands of profitable markets on the Internet. This step is pretty straightforward, but beginners make it complicated (I know because I struggled before I find a niche).

Here are some highly lucrative niches that you can copy: golf clubs, learn Spanish language, Save your marriage, registry fix, Internet marketing, yeast infection.

These are enough to get you started right away. Don’t over analyze and just pick one.

2. You find an affiliate product

Let’s say that you chose to make money in the yeast infection niche, all you need to do is to register to clickbank.com and choose a yeast infection product.

Tip: Make sure that the gravity is more than 30.

3. Create your money making affiliate website

Your are almost ready to start your affiliate campaign now. Before you start, you need to create a website to promote your affiliate links.

A few years ago, it was a bit challenging for beginners because many of them didn’t have a clue about html. And even if they had a site, adding links and new pages was extremely difficult. But today, nothing is easier than creating a website. Seriously.

Here are two free platforms that will help you to create your own website (or if you prefer, you can create a blog) in just minutes.

Blogger.com

I suggest to my student any of these two platforms to start. Many people like Squidoo, but there are two many outgoing links, and you will lose a lof of commissions with Squidoo. Squidoo is good to get backlinks though.

4. Traffic, Traffic, Traffic

To make money on the Internet, you need two things:

1. An offer (product or service)
2. Driving traffic to this offer

The beauty of affiliate marketing is that you have thousands of products that you can promote today. And even better, you have the ability to know what products are selling like hotcakes.

There are no secrets.

Traffic generation method are well known. Some require your time, while others will ask for your cash.

Find a few that work well for me below:

1. Article marketing
2. Blogging (on my blog)
3. Guest blogging on authority blogs
4. Blog comments
5. Press Releases
6. Backlinks
7. Forum marketing
8. Social Bookmarking
9. Videos
10. PPC

With this, you have everything you need to drive at least 4000 potential buyers to your list every single month.

What is affiliate marketing?

Simply put, affiliate marketing is selling for others while you get a commission for that sale. Got the point? No? Let me explain further with a case study so that you get a better understanding.

Suppose Mr. X has a product to sell. Say he sells baby lotion. What normally Mr. X would do is go around promoting the product himself or at best pay companies to promote the products for him. This would incur huge amount of start up and promotional cost, which maybe beyond the reach of common man. So what has the common man to do? Take to the internet.

In the internet what he does is go to some common affiliate websites and list his product for sale. He would announce a percentage of the sale to people who promote it for him. This way the seller and the broker (the one who sells for him or more polished name I would use will be “Affiliate marketer”) would benefit. The seller needs to pay only for sold products and the affiliate marketer gets a share of the sale.

So, why do you need to provide commission to someone else? Why not do everything alone? Keep all the profits for myself if I sell a product? The answer is pretty simple. It is all about mathematics.

• The more the number of ads you see about a particular product, the more inclined one will be to buy that.
• The affiliate marketers generally boost up the product even if your product holds very little value, in the hope of earning some cash. This may result in sales which you never would have got otherwise.
• People depend more on other people’s opinion about a product rather than the hype created by you. So the more people tell your product is good, the more sales you make.

The commission amount ranges from 5% to 75% of the sale amount. When considering selling something, as a seller, you must look at your ROI (Return Of Investment). If it is an eBook you sell, then you can afford to give even 90% as affiliate fee. But if you are selling a service, say an SEO service which costs you 100$ per hour. You charge 150$ for it. You can give 50% affiliate fee that would make you run on a loss. Most affiliate marketers prefer a commission of over 25%. So I suggest 25% as the most optimal affiliate commission.

Tips for making money as an affiliate marketer

If you are going the professional way to earning your bread and butter online and is taking affiliate marketing seriously, then I would suggest you have the following

Personal domain name and hosting

This is an absolute necessity. If you own a personal domain name and hosting, then you are free to make changes in whatever way you want them to be. No restrictions. Besides it will look more professional and people would go with your opinion thus earning you more money through increased chance of referral commission.

You can check these guys out for hosting

Bluehost- Great support a nice feature set. Although unlimited bandwidth and storage are just marketing techniques, I wouldn’t say they are bad. Bluehost is one of the most reputed companies around. Reliable and fast bluehost is. A free domain name is included and you can host multiple sites with them on a single account.

Hostgator- Another very reliable web hosting company hostgator is. Smaller than bluehost I must say, yet excellent service and uptimes. A bit more pricy but hey quality comes with a price.

Ewebguru- A small hosting company and ewebguru lives up to its reputation for being a cheap web host. I would recommend them for your static websites with low traffic. If you need reliable fast hosting which includes blogs, scripting etc I would stay away. This is a budget hosting company.

There are so many other hosting companies. I am not going to waste my time on everyone. These are my picks as I have personal experience hosting with these people.

Unique and good web design

Don’t forget to get a good and unique web design. It may cost you 100-500$ using freelancing sites. But it will be really worth it. I wouldn’t buy from a site which is a replica of 1000 other sites. I just think they are plain scams (Maybe I am wrong but that is how the mind of a surfer works). I wouldn’t say design is everything, but design is something.

The right mindset

You need to be really focused and dedicated when trying to be a successful affiliate marketer. Be ready to gain maximum knowledge and implement them as soon as possible. Do not start off with much enthusiasm and don’t let the enthusiasm die out. Be prepared to shell out some money, but never too much. You must be able to follow up with your leads once you get a hang of it. Find time for this. Affiliate marketing or any other internet business is just like a real business only with decreased costs. If you do not keep ahead of the race, then you will fall out eventually.

Time frame setting and goal identification

Set a particular amount of time frame for your website business and reap the rewards. Don’t expect everything to turn out positive every time. Realize what you want to achieve and move forward accordingly. When you achieve your target goal, aim for something higher.

No distractions

You may encounter a lot of distractions in your day to day life. But never let it interfere in your marketing goals. Don’t give up because you were not successful in the initial months. Just try, try and try until you succeed. Online business can be a bit tricky so be up-to-date in the latest buzz.

Affiliate marketing mistakes to avoid.

Not targeting a niche

First of all you need to locate a profitable market from which you can tap money. Never go too broad if you cannot afford to spend thousands of dollars each month for seo, promotion etc. Say for example you target a niche, SEO. Do you know how many people are targeting that niche? Both professionals and amateurs alike in huge amounts are into this niche. What chances do you see beating them? Very small or nil will be the answer. So go for something more specific. How about targeting, Seo for India or maybe seo for Delhi in India. This would be much more achievable.

Ok now you know how to focus small. Now is all that glitters gold? Never make such an assumption. Choose a niche from which you can make money. Suppose you are an expert in some sport played locally in your province. You decide to start a website/blog to market that. How would you earn money, Adsense or affiliate marketing or some other monetizing methods? Well, how do you suppose to earn money if there are no sellers for the market? So choose wisely. If you choose a niche that has a large number of sellers, then expect tough competition since there will be 1000X the number of affiliate marketers for that niche.

Not having a list of contacts (downlinks as in MLMs)

Even though you may not be selling you own products you still need to be in contact with people. The best way to earn quick money is through your down lines. Even if you don’t have a massive amount of people under you, it would be great to have at least a few responsive people under you. Connect with people and they will be your number one destination for quick sales without much marketing. Find time to socialize with them. Don’t just contact them only for business purposes. Most successful affiliate marketers spend time in building a list of loyal followers rather than just direct marketing of the products.

Choosing a product which by itself is very shady

Choosing a product to promote is very crucial. Don’t try to sell products which looks very shady or as a scam. You may sell quickly but in the long run people won’t trust you and will stop believing in your reviews however truthfully you promote them. If you own a website on say affiliate marketing, then choose products to sell through your site to match the theme. Don’t try to promote a fitness product. It will not only annoy your readers but may prevent them from becoming your readers ever again. One more thing to note is, when applying for affiliates through non standard affiliate scheme sites such as commission junction or click bank (Normally when you apply for being an affiliate directly though the product site itself), stick with those which have a track record of paying their affiliate marketers. Search reviews for the product before finalizing a product for promotion. Find too many negative reviews? Then stay away from them.

Targeting too much with too little resources

I know many people get tempted seeing all the products to promote. But it is highly recommended you promote not more than 2 or 3 products at a time. When starting out just promote 1 product. The limited amount of resources (money, time, human resource, inexperience) you have at start is your biggest enemy. So unless you are very prolific in your ways, I would suggest that you understand your limitations. One you get the hang of it increase your product line by all means.

Avoiding online exposure

Most people do not want to expose their identity online. But the internet audience needs to recognize a brand image. If you are well established in your niche (like Darren of problogger), then people would more likely buy the products on offer even if you just put them up with minimum marketing. It is like people trusting google with their results. I would suggest you spend some time branding yourself or your company to get the credibility level.

Following the “build and they will come” rule

Unless you have an already established website or identity in the online market, then this rule will never apply to you. Even established bloggers resort to some form of marketing to attract new readers. What use will it be to have a highly useful piece of article or software if no one ever knows about it? You can tray marketing through

• Forums
• Blogs
• Social media
• Article syndication
• Seo and so on

Affiliate sales promotion tactics

Of course owning a website is only the first part in your affiliate marketing career. To make sales you must have a target audience. If no one comes then how will you make money? So you must do some marketing for your site/blog

Create a good write up on the product you are selling or trying to promote. Try to include facts, screenshots, your experience using them, any proof to substantiate your claim and so on. Never try to fake any of these for your reputation dose matter a lot.

You can use google Adwords or yahoo search marketing or related PPC programs to get some quick visitors to your site.

Affiliate marketing through PPC campaigns

• PPC campaigns can prove costly but when you see the ROI, it does seem pretty much simple and efficient way to make sales quickly (Considering the fact that SEO can take close to 6 months or so minimum to show results).
• Make the campaign ad as attractive as possible. Do not include fake or irrelevant information, but suiting your product description and its use.
• Think of some catchy title. If you sell a product on milking a cow then include it in your heading with a twist like “Milking a cow is no difficult” or other such titles. If you are selling a specific ice cream company, say amul. If you want you can search for a competition and spot a tough competitor, say kwality walls. Then include the heading like “Kwality walls is history. Or are they?” or any other catchy description you can think of. Try to be as innovative as possible. Don’t make the same headline as another person made in his example.
• Target the right keywords. Do not overdo it. Find some 10-20 related keywords and stick to them.
• Do not spend more than what you can get back.

Beachbody has a unique program where you sign up to be a Beachbody Coach. Upon signing up, you are given all of the tools needed to start a online business including a personalized website with videos, content, and products where you can take your customers to. Here you will get your affiliate link where you can use on your own site if you want.

How Much Money Can You Make?

There is no cap. When you become a Beachbody Coach you get paid a 25% commission on all sales that you make and get a 25% discount on anything you buy for yourself. You can earn money by sponsoring other coaches into your business. This way you can earn over rides on what products they buy and sell. In total there are actually 8 ways you can get paid as you move up in ranking with the company and most of them are residual.

What About Those Customers?

What makes the Beachbody Coach program the best online business available is once you bring a customer in they are yours forever. As long as you stay in the program you will never lose your customers. This gives you the opportunity to earn future commissions on purchases from your past clients without you having to e-mail, call, etc. Think about how many other affiliate programs are out there where you get to keep the clients that you turned over to a vendor. You probably can’t think of that many or any.

Is The Beachbody Coach Program For Everybody?

Yes and no. This is one of those instances where you need to become a “product of the product.” Do not think you can sign up for this program, sit behind a computer, build some crappy websites with your affiliate link, and never actually do the workout. People will see right through that. Potential customers are going to want to see your photos and read about how much weight you lost. This is how you build trust with them. You do not need to be in awesome shape to be a coach but you do need to be working out and eating right. Your ultimate goal with this program is to live a healthier life and help other people get there too. The making money part is bonus. It happens all the time where people will buy P90X, start working out, and get questions from co-workers, family members, and friends asking what you are doing to get into shape. Now you have a place where you can send them to get in shape with you and earn some money on the side.

Do You Have To Handle Any Orders?

You don’t have to. Beachbody handles order fulfillment, returns, and customer service. This way you only have to worry about bringing new customers in and working out with them. You can handle orders if you want but its not necessary.

What’s The catch?

It’s not free. There is a one time enrollment fee of $40 and a monthly charge of $15 to stay in the program, keep the website they give you running, and giving you the right to buy discounted products and sell them. The P90X DVD itself sells for $120 which is a $29 commission for you. Most people will spend another $100 with that order to get everything they need which results in a total of $50 for you. This more than covers the monthly cost.

In Summary

Being a Beachbody Coach can be one of two things. You can sign up to only take advantage of the discounts or make a business out of it. Many people sign up at first to do it part time. When they start seeing their own workout results it makes it easier to promote. With it being a online and offline business you can build a strong Internet presence but also do the old tactics of networking, handing out business cards, or leading a group workout. Since Beachbody is spending over $70 million dollars a year on advertising it has created enough buzz where the term P90X is now searched for in Google almost 800k times a month. Everybody wants to get into shape and the P90X workout can show people how to do it. You just have to be willing to show them what it did for you.

If you’re doing affiliate marketing for quite a while, you would notice that there has been a huge saturation in the market. As many people learned doing affiliate marketing, the market has become well-penetrated and it has become harder to profit.

But you see, a lot of people are still producing high numbers and to be honest everyone can do it too! Ok enough fluff here, what I am talking about is taking advantage of current trends and events to make money.

As you see everyday there is an issue, a hot topic or whatever you may want to call it. Now the thing here is that you have to be quick. Usually a hot trend can be profitable for at least a week before it goes down. Now here it goes, you can look for current issues/trends using the following:

• Google Trends
• Yahoo Buzz
• Digg
• StumbleUpon

So what are we gonna do with them? Basically if you visit them, you can find a common trend. For example “American Idol” . American Idol has its new season and basically we know how popular it is right? How are we going to make money with it? Affiliate Marketing! There is actually a ton of way to profit from it, but I would tell you the easiest yet the low-risked one, email submits. Basically email submits are offers wherein you get paid for when someone puts his email address. Most of the time the offer is about getting a free ipod, ps3, or tech gadgets. This offer converts on first page email submit. Easy? :-)

Now we will create a page that puts up a survey like this. “Who is going to win the American Idol? Vote now and win a free ipod nano.” Then whatever answer a person chooses he will be redirected to an offer mentioned above. The next thing to do now is send traffic to our page. In this we will do pay-per-click through Google Adwords. I have written a post about doing pay per click on email submits this last month and I think its worth a read.

Then profit! The tip here is that most keywords that we will be bidding on has a very low Cost per click. Why? Because no one bids on American Idol, no one bids for “Jett Travolta”, no one bids on something that hasn’t been related to an offer! But what we did is we simply incorporate the latest trend with a certain offer! Do you get the point? You will be getting dead cheap clicks. Now about worrying if you are going to convert or what, listen. Email Submits again converts on first page which means a user only has to submit his email and you will be paid $1.25 for it immediately. You can then work your way up and start promoting different offers that have a higher payout. It depends on what you can do and your expertise with affiliate marketing

Using trends like these really helps! Not only it can get you started so quick but also it can make you profit without having to go through the tight competition in your niche.

Maybe the idea of making one hundred dollars a day appeals to you if you’re nine to five it every day. Makes me think about all the people taking that morning train from Hoboken to New York for the daily grind and then back home again on the path. Does the idea of not having to work like a dog appeal do you?

I started internet marketing about ten years ago selling an eBook I bought online with resale rights. I would send out thousands of emails every night and watch my hit counter slowly move on my mini site. If I wanted more traffic, I would send out more emails until my ESP shut me down for spam mailing. These were leads I paid good money for but, these emails were considered spam.

Today, affiliate marketing has evolved. Now the tools of internet affiliate marketers are lead capture pages and Adsence. Marketers are using eBook affiliate programs to promote and not promoting Private label eBooks like before. Now many affiliate marketers may have hundreds of lead collection tools in place and thousand of webpage’s with several sites and domains cross connected to each other.

Many affiliate marketers are not selling their own content or products but using one of the many products available on digital affiliate warehouses. To become a member all you need to do to represent them is sign up with your tax, bank account or PayPal information. I personally use the same type of company to sell my eBooks that I have written. Some eBooks I sell however do a much better job of converting customers then my own site so I promote the best sellers equally to my own material.

Getting your account to produce one hundred dollars a day actually is very hard at first. I believe most people fail at affiliate marketing is because they try to focus on one product instead of going after the top ten best sellers. About eighty percent of my sales come from products that I am cross promoting. I am always amazed where some of the sales come from some forgotten classified or forum URL or some other posting in my countless affiliate promotion campaign.

The real key to becoming a good affiliate marketer is to keep doing what you’re doing until you get a result. If you’re doing affiliate marketing at nights and on weekends keep doing it to you get results. Once you get a result, lead capture or whatever it is you’re trying to do, keep doing it to get more.

Slowly, your list will grow and soon you will have a great report with you mailing list if you get them much needed content and make them look forward to your mailings. Once you have a few hundred people on your list you will start to see sales every few days from your mailings. If you’re able to grow your list to a few thousand people, you will be able to make a nice decent second income from list.

I recently made a special list for just my buyers where I give them all my best web pages, mini sites, lead capture pages, videos and other useful marketing information that they can use to become successful at working their own website or home internet business. With the right tools, desire and the right information you too came make a hundred dollars a day as an affiliate marketer.

Most people think the key to affiliate marketing success is all about referring the most sales, others say it’s all about choosing the right product and while those factors play an important role on whether or not you will succeed in affiliate marketing, most marketers fail to implement the most valuable technique of all into their businesses.

On the first months of my internet venture, I’ve heard tons of ways to make money online. For a start, you have those “Get paid to” sites. Pretty tempting for a 13-year old back then, but I never tried one. You have eBay and a whole lotta other ways. But what have most intrigued me is this – bum marketing.

For the next months, I will be doing a live experiment, testing if bum marketing still works.

What is bum marketing?

Easy as pie. You write an article related to the product that you will be promoting as an affiliate then submit it to Ezinearticles.com. Do the process hundred times. Wait for the search engines to rank you article.

Higher rankings = more traffic to your article = more clicks to your affiliate link = more affiliate sales.

Listen. Here’s the secret to bum marketing success… domination. Dominate every search term for the product.

Let’ say you will be promoting a fishing tip product. To dominate the niche of your product, try hitting long tail keywords e.g. trout fishing, Alaska salmon fishing, Florida fishing, etc. and write one article for every keyphrase.

Why bum marketing?

I’ll skip the long paragraphs and bull point it out ;-)

• No computer skills required
• You can start with a low budget
• You can start right now
• Money on snowball effect

Why not bum marketing?

• Too many articles to write
• You depend too much for search engine traffic

The solution

• Too many articles to write – If you don’t have the money, you’ll have to pay time to get money. If you don’t have the time, you’ll have to pay money to get time. Now I have the money, I don’t have to write the articles – I ordered my first batch of 15 articles from one of my writers.
• You depend too much for search engine traffic – Then why not add a dash of web 2.0? For this case study, I will be using Social Poster to bookmark the articles I’ve submitted to Ezinearticles.com. I will also make a couple of Squidoo.com and Hubpages.com pages.

What I’ve done as of now

If you want to do the same and test it for yourself – or do it for the profits, here are the things that I have done at the moment.

1. Looked for a product to promote over at PayDotCom (Clickbank alternative) with a good conversion rate and a reasonable price
2. Bought a domain name because Ezinearticles.com don’t allow direct affiliate links – $7.15 (with coupon price from godaddy)
3. Bought 15 articles related to the product I will be promoting – $45
4. Set upped a campaign on my autoresponder (I am currently with GetResponse) to capture leads for long term traffic – $17.95
5. Bought a private label product to give people an initiative to sign up to my list – $3
6. Hosted (I recommend Media Temple) my squeeze page where I will drive my traffic to – $20
7. Did a keyword research via Aaron Wall’s keyword suggestion tool and targeted the keyphrases with around 100-300 overall daily search to compete with less competition
8. Submitted an article to Ezinearticles.com
9. Bookmarked my article using Social Poster
10. Made a Squidoo.com and Hubpages.com page for my article

With that kind of set up, it would cost you less than a hundred dollars to start.

I did my best to cut the cost here for everyone to take play. You can eliminate some expenses like the buying of articles by writing ones on your own and probably the hosting if you’ve got your own host.

I’m expecting a positive result from this experiment as the principles are quite promising.

Why would you do that?

Simple, because there is less competition… But there is also less people in these sub-market (or sub-niches).

Should You Choose The Biggies Or The Tiny?

When you are starting out, it is recommended to start with the smallest niche, but…

If you are a doer, you can attack the big market directly. It’s what I prefer, I prefer to go where the money is, and where people buy!

You need to know that if you choose the big markets, you will not dominate them. For this, you need very deep pockets since big companies through money on the web just for branding themselves even if they lose thousands of dollars doing so. They just don’t care…

But it’s not a reason to ignore these hihgly lucrative markets…

All you need is a plan…

Please, understand that the more competition, the more money you will make. The bigger the market and the bigger your chances of earning more money.

There is money for everyone, beginners and veterans…

Don’t be afraid of competition. On the contrary, you should welcome them because they do the work for you while you watch and try to do better than them.

Internet is big, but most of the people out there are doing something wrong… after all, they are human.

Don’t let them intimidate you. If you want to go after the “weight loss” market, go for it. If you want to go after the “make money online” market, go for it.

Here Is The Key To Success

Master your topic. I need become a real master (or hire someone). Get a blog, and start posting about your subject, start giving proofs and showing people that you are not a player…

After a couple of months, people in the niche will find your site and post it on stumbleupon, digg and social media sites, you will receive emails from people asking for your help and guidance.

Then, all you have to do is to write a short 30 pages report solving a big problem in your niche and sell it for $7 or $9.95.

Be sure to capture the email address of people who buy from you because you will send them other stuff to buy…

You will first test the water with affiliate programs, and later you will know exactly what they want to buy.

Once you do that, you want to find a big army of affiliates who will promote your products all over the Internet…

They will do everything for you… Pay per click advertising, search engine optimization, social bookmarking, forum posting, etc…

Then all you need to do is watch and see your popularity increase.
