Sometimes, Things Just Get Out Of Control

By Carl On April 1, 2009 41 Comments

It’s unusual to say the least…

Last month, when we were on our way to the beach, my mom’s cell phone rang. It’s not really out of the blue because my mom has an event organizing business so a lot of people would call her from time to time.

But this time, it scared me.

“Hello? Ah, this is from Carl’s school?” My mom answered.

My heart started pumping like I was running on a treadmill for 15kph. They talked for like 5 minutes and after my mom hanged up, there was sudden silence.

My mom didn’t say a thing.

So just an icebreaker, I asked “What are we going to do first at the beach?”

That didn’t turned out well, to make the long story short – I failed in 3 subjects and I am going to summer school.

Then just last week, my dad and I talked about it. It was a long talk, one of the talks that make you sweat and think about random things while listening because it was very serious.

The big sad news is…

I’m forced to sign up for the army.

I don’t like it, but they made me do it to discipline myself I guess. I’ll be starting next week so I’ve got everything ready right beside me, my luggage, everything.

Right now, I’m going my best to think of anything positive but as much to my dismay – I can’t.

I am also opening this blog for bidding as I can’t pursue with my online career anymore. The bidding will start at $50,000. If you are interested, comment below with your bid or email me at carl@carlocab.com if you want to bid privately. I’ll just comment your bid below to keep people updated.

This is probably the hardest thing I’ve done because I’m giving up an empire that I’ve already built and fortified.

Also my company, RichKidMedia has been aquired by a local online company. I have 20% stocks though so I have something to keep me making money through the years.

I would like to thank everyone for being with me on this great journey. I would like to thank my mentor, Joel Christopher for guiding me, my parents for giving me the disicipline and God for giving me this oppurtunity.

I think, that’s it, no words can explain what I’m really feeling right now.

Update, April 11, 2009 8:01 PM: SOLD – Winner’s bid was an old $1 coin and a red sock.

Qtube On QTV

By Carl On March 27, 2009 10 Comments

As I said on my post yesterday, last last week, I’ve been interviewed by a national TV station.

It aired yesterday.

“I’m on TV!”

That’s the sentence that was on my mind, after dinner.

Even though I always see my self on video and on other blogs here and there, me on TV is still quite entertaining. Heck, my classmates were still in disbelief seeing me even though they knew that I was making money and such.

It was inaccurate though – very inaccurate, they said my name wrong “Carlo Ocab”. They said that I was making $55/month *only*. They got that because of the “Get Featured Here For Only $55/Month” on the sidebar!

But it was good experience overall ;-)

The name of the station by the way is QTV, and the name of the show is Qtube. It was a new show and it aired around 10:30 PM so there were not much views.

Here’s the news on their site.

P.S. The girl who interviewed me (2nd image) is older than me :-P

P.P.S. And yes she is pretty LOL.

P.P.P.S. This is the last P.S. promise, forgive the low quality pictures, I was using my first DSLR, it’s a Nikon d60.

Kidblogger’s Two-Step Formula To Online Branding Success

By Carl On March 25, 2009 14 Comments

A lot of people have been wondering…

“Carl, you haven’t given any updates for almost a month.”

I’ve been busy.

Last last week, I’ve been interviewed by a TV station. It’s my first time to appear on national TV so it’s gonna be great. Actually, some of my classmates already saw the commercial (that I didn’t LOL) and they were telling me about it.

Then this last March 18, I had the opportunity to speak to a crowd of marketing and sales people about online branding and how a blog can help a business. That took a lot of my time because I had to attend public speaking classes for the preparation.

It was great overall, I was more comfortable than the last time – I was even able to crack impromptu jokes, heh.

Here’s some pics from the seminar…

1
Please, don’t mind the sampaguita necklace. They made me wear that LOL.

2
Question and answer with Mon Lizardo, director of Yehey.com

3
Part of the audience – around 400 people were in the room.

This is the plaque :-)

Hopefully, if all goes well as planned, this April 1 I will have my own office in a *real* tower. It’s in the 37th floor with one full time programmer.

That’s it for now. I’ll keep you updated.

P.S. If you want to know the two-step formula to online branding success, drop me an email to carl@carlocab.com.

ISP Problems…

By Carl On February 23, 2009 5 Comments

I’m writing to you today in a mini mart, just a 5-minute drive from our house.

If you are following me on Twitter, you probably know this already…

Our ISP is damned. We don’t have a connection for like 3 days in a row now – and g’dang I have to cancel this one interview with someone very special just because of that, geesh.

Anyway this is just a quick heads up for people wondering why I don’t reply to their emails. Especially the support for Ultimate Blogging Theme.

Don’t worry though, they said that the network is now fixed and all they have to do is manually configure the connection in my house so I’ll be available tomorrow.
