I like it.

(it’s a biased answer, I love red, isn’t it obvious?)

But ClickBank is known for that little blue square that has 3 balls in it, changing everything would just mess up their identity.

Besides blue triggers trust – and affiliate networks like ClickBank need that because they handle tons of confidential information. PLUS they are also the one who handles payment.

Quick tip: Using a blue background on your sales letter or website converts more than any other color.

Whatcha think? (here’s a quick shout the the CB guys)

Well at least it doesn’t look like this anymore…

This article is guest posted by Patrick.

About

Hello all, this is my first guest post on Carl’s blog, and I hope it does not come off as purely a self promotional post. I think I should start off by telling a little bit about myself. My name is Patrick DeVivo, and I am a self educating youth blogger from New York, USA. I am currently interested in web design and Photoshop. I am trying my hardest to learn all about PHP and MySQL programming and also XHTML/CSS. I am currently fourteen years old, and my biggest current project is The Youth Bloggers Network. The Youth Bloggers Network is a new website which I have been setting up for the past month or so (working on and off). There has not been an official launch, but all the functions and features of the site should be working properly as of last night.

The Idea

Originally, the Youth Bloggers Network was an idea I had for a forum where young bloggers could share their thoughts and talk about things relating to their own blogs. I expanded the project when it came to setting things up, and so the emphasis was taken off of just a forum. The project is now both a blog and forum, with articles about blogging as a teenager and tips for bloggers (of all ages). I currently don’t know of this site will be a success or a flop, and am I currently looking for feedback from anyone willing to give it. I’m posting this article on Carl’s blog because I know he gets a ton of traffic, and the more people who send me advice the better.

When I first started blogging, I had no idea about the amount of other young bloggers already in the blogosphere. My first goal was to talk with some of them to find out more about their successes/failures. I contacted a few for advice and reviews, but things did not get much farther from there. That is when I decided that there needed to be a network for young bloggers to connect in. I knew that this new niche of “kid/teen bloggers” was still pretty new, so I began working on the Youth Bloggers Network.

Unfortunately, it is much harder to gain members than it is to get hits to your site. I was surprised by how few people were signing up. Currently, I get about 40-60 hits a day, and barely anyone has signed up. I decided it was time to generate some buzz from a place in a similar niche. That is how I came to Carl’s blog to publish this post.

So what’s the point of joining YBN?

The main type of members I have are currently young bloggers. These are (usually) teenagers who have their own blog and are looking for a place to receive feedback and get some publicity. Some other members are adults who are interested in the “young blogging” phenomenon and want to get their heads in the game.

Don’t worry, no sex offenders allowed inside

The benefits of becoming a member are pretty great:

Ability to submit articles to the network blog

Ability to post in all forums

Ability to participate in forum contests

Ability to receive awesome advertising discounts and coupons

Access to the download directory (coming soon) – Tons of WordPress themes, plugins, ebooks, and photoshop files.

Thanks for reading, I hope you’ll check out my site and give it a chance to impress you. You can contact me through the http://youthbloggers.net/contact/ page.

Experimenting is my thing.

At the age of 5, I always ask my dad for old scraps, electronics and stuff. I open it, but never put a single screw back again.

At the age of 8, I open up my toys and connected it with anything I can find in our house. I remember the days when my mom would yell at me “Clean up your mess!”

Experimenting is really my thing…

And I did it again – this time, with Digg. The result?

“My Blog Got Banned On Digg”

Not only my blog but also my account, and that’s a pretty big loss for me. I love Digg and I visit it almost everyday to hang out and read interesting stories.

I love reading those everyday Apple news, Ron Paul hoorays and especially looking at the Digg’s image section. I can’t bookmark them now.

Today, I’m gonna use my mom’s advice. I’ll clean up this mess, so sorry Digg community. I will stop buying votes now. I was just too excited before when one of my stories got dugg.

I miss my Digg account, I miss the excitement, I miss Digg.

*Bow*

P.S. No, Really, I’m serious. Sorry Digg.

Update: The Miracle Of The Mystical Feed Count Spike

Yes, that 6,856 subscribers under the sidebar is right from feedburner.

The title says it all, it’s a massive heart stopping mystical feed count spike – that happened in just one day…

I’m not saying it’s legit though.

It looks like someone is trying to spam me using FeedBlitz, it’s not that bad. But of course, it will mislead some people and mostly advertisers. I’ll observe it for a day or two and then I’ll ask Feed Blitz about it.

For now, let me enjoy the big numbers and visualize what would happen in the near future ;-)

I checked my feed count this afternoon about 4 PM (We’re in +8 GMT) and was ridiculed by this funny stat showing that my subscriber count was buried down to 290 from 564. Honestly, that shocked me at first as I haven’t posted from the last 2 days, but to think of it, my subscribers aren’t really that mean to unsubscribe that fast (Well I hope so!) as there are days where my blog is in drought longer than this week.

In the hope of another Feedburner hiccup, I visited other top blogs in my niche and viola:

Problogger from 33,000ish

John Chow from 13,000ish

Copyblogger from 26,000ish

It’s A Swing!

Just to be sure, I logged in on my feedburner account (That I don’t often do) and looked at what feed reader my subscribers are using. Yesterday 46% or 260 of them are using Google reader.

Subtract that from 564 that was my feed count yesterday and it will total to 304 subscribers. A pretty close figure to my feed count today of 290 – or you can do it in vice versa if Google forgets to count the other feed readers and it would total to 260, a close call to 290 also.

So to those of you who are worrying about the feed count drop, fear no more. Let the techie guys work on it.

Update:

Just about a minute ago, Feedburner updated their stats and yep, they forgot to count Google feedfethcer.

I wonder why they always forget their own reader

First of all, I have to be honest with you that I don’t totally care about Pagerank. I did a few months ago but when I realized that it was nothing but a number between 1 to 10, it stopped my obsession.

Think about a world without pagerank. No spamming, no blackhat guys, no linktrains, no linkbuying, no linkfarming and no stupid threads on DP people asking when the next pagerank update is. Well then here it is your long awaited pagerank update. It’s not what you expected, didn’t you?

It happened yesterday, October 24 when Google shattered the blogosphere. It was all around. Someone even made a comic strip about it.

Questions have been roaming around lately on what really happened and why did all these sites’ PR dropped. No one really knows, but here are my theories about it:

Text Links

It has been confirmed, yet people just tend to ignore it – and I’m one of those so here I am with PR 3 blog (from PR 4)

I understand why Google doesn’t let people buy and sell links, it’s for better results anyway. Just imagine if you search for something you really need and all you get are spammy sites plastered with ads and with no useful content, that would be hell.

So about an hour ago, I sent all my text link advertisers a confirmation email if it was ok for them that I add the nofollow attribute on their links. Although I don’t really sell link juice because all my ads are for traffic purposes only, it will be essential to put the “nofollow” tag in their links to be sure that Google won’t have a second thought on my site.

Blog Network Interlinking

Engadget’s PR drop down from 7 to 5, Autoblog’s was from 6 to 4, Problogger’s and Copyblogger’s dropped down from 6 to 4 too. Yes, they don’t sell links but in this instance what do they have in common?

Problogger and Copyblogger are all part of the b5media and for your info, b5media blogs are interlinked with each other. Though Problogger and Copyblogger don’t link to any of them but the whole network does. Same anchor text, links and etc. I bet they’re not doing it to game Google but who knows what Google thinks. Same with Engadget and Autoblog, it’s worse on their side because they link with each other. Meaning they’re giving reciprocal links which can be considered as a link farm.

Widget Bucks?

Shoemoney has a post about this. It started when a high profile blogger told him that one of the causes of PR drop on some blogs was the widget bucks. Due to the fact that you are not allowed to remove the Widget Bucks’s link on the widget, you’re considered linking to them – and they’re currently penalized (give their name a search and they’re nowhere to be seen in the SERP)

I guess they really pissed off Google about their TOS that says you’re not allowed to remove the backlink to their site on their widget

Back-links placed by Mpire in the HTML code must not be removed.

Haha… good one

Contests with Links

This could be one possibility. Launching contests especially if you have big prizes like what Darren recently did can attract hundreds of links. Google, as a robot will immediately flag you for that. You can be deflagged but it would be better if you inform them before you launch so no harm will be done.

Linkloves

In the Google webmaster guidelines, there’s a statement there which says that a single webpage’s reasonable number of active links is just below 100. Link loves, linktrains and group writing projects can be a little harmful if not moderated or posted with care.

Keep the links on a given page to a reasonable number (fewer than 100).

Google just hates us

Almost all of the “make money online” blogs’ PR dropped from the recent update, is it possible that Google just hates us? Nahh… Be optimistic. At least all of the blogs in your niche has low PR’s, nothing changed. It’s all equal

Auction Ads, an ebay affiliate middleman have announced that they’re giving away $25 to those new publishers INSTANTLY for FREE. Wow, now that’s an offer that anyone can’t resist.

And before that, they also bumped the affiliate commissions from 2% to 5%. Meaning, if you’ve referred someone and that someone earns, you get 5% of that.

That’s Mediawhiz being sooo desperate for new publishers! Great marketing tactic eh? They did that to text link ads too, giving free $100 worth of free links.

How about the old publishers

I know, I know… don’t worry, you also get the $25. They automatically added it to our accounts. I can see mine here actually.

Try it now, it’s freeÂ

So to those who haven’t joined Auction Ads, Try it now, it’s free and don’t forget the free $25!

Here’s one of the latest projects I’ve been mumbling about! Meet Blipoo, a social bookmarking site for “cool people sharing “cool stories.

I know that there are many social bookmarking sites out there with the same niche, but heck? Cool stories can’t be just on one frontpage right?

Blipoo is also here to help bloggers (We promise you, we won’t reset blips! ) drive more traffic to their blog because we do allow self promoting your posts here but, of course, please contribute some articles and blip sometime, eh?

In a little while, Blipoo should take off considering the web 2.0 engine has started to roll. I will be promoting this site heavily with some of my old (and new) traffic boosting techniques. (so watch out!) Maybe, this site will also turn into a case study? Hehehehehe… Let’s just see

And if you’re “cool maybe you would like to join the community and contribute some blips and stories? I would really appreciate it!

How about I link the first 5 people to join Blipoo? Just leave me a comment with your username and your site. Is that cool or what?!

P.S. Blipoo is still in beta. If you have seen any bugs… Please report it to me
