How To Get A TKO Win In Your Business

By Carl On December 10, 2008 Under Marketing

Last Sunday, our national pride, Manny Pacquiao humiliated the so called “dream match” by putting De La Hoya into a nightmare with his accurate punching and outstanding footwork…

And I was there to watch it on the big screen – live. I had to get up 7 AM on a Sunday morning just to watch the fight though but it’s totally worth it.

Before the fight, there were about 3 HBO special series about Pacman and the Golden Boy’s training camp, what they do and who they are training with.

This is what I noticed that accounts for Pacquiao’s vicious victory…

  • De La Hoya’s trainer, Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain is 69 years old and assistant trainer, Angelo Dundee (Former trainer of Ali) is 87 years old
  • Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach is much younger, 48 years old

Yes, De La Hoya’s team got the experience, wisdom and all the tactics to win – in the 70’s.

Things have changed.

It’s 2008 and we got new methods, new techniques and new technology to train for the fight. Freddie Roach was aware of that.

A stinging straight, duck and dodge – those were the weapons trainer Roach equipped Manny to take advantage of the flaw he spotted in De La Hoya’s defense.

Not only that, De La Hoya’s team was busy managing his weight, worried to pay the $3,000,000 penalty for every excess pound – while on Pacquiao’s camp, they’re busy training and preparing the pound-for-pound champion.

Think about it, many of the CEO’s of big companies nowadays are younger. Young people are more aware of technology and most probably can multi-task better. Young people are open to new ideas. Young people do not fear scarcity…

So here’s what I think to get superior results in your business. Get the wisdom of the older ones and apply using the techniques and methods of the younger.

    Nice advice.

“Get the wisdom of the older ones and apply using the techniques and methods of the younger.”

Very true. How many sites have sprung from MySpace and Facebook themes–and how many adults are now on them!

The YouTube Affiliate program is a great example of how young people have gained success and fame on the internet. The top-viewed content is all from teenagers and college students!

Wow! Good for you having the opportunity to watch the fight live! I agree with your observations. An older person maybe more knowledgeable because of experiences but a younger person has a lot more drive and energy.

I agree with that. Use the old methods and apply it in present form.

    Hey Carl!

As usual i agree with your concept! – I also have to share my observation regarding this post – here you taught some marketers that finding content to write about is easier than most folks think – you took a scenario completely unrelated to marketing and you applied it to your business and our industry! – It’s evident that we all can do this, with things we do in our daily lives, we just have to find a way to relate it to marketing – be original and be remembered.
