How To Make A Generous Income Selling Services Over Internet

By Nitin Under Make Money Online

This article is guest posted by Nitin Agwaral.

Believe it or not, it is possible to live your dream and make a generous income selling services through an e-commerce website online.  Of course, if it were that easy, everyone would be doing it, wouldn’t they?

There is a step-by-step process that you need to use to make sure that you succeed when selling online:

Build Your Reputation

Before you are even ready for your first customer, you must build rapport to increase the credibility of your website. As an example, if you are selling WordPress themes and modifications through your website, then your own blog should be very well designed to reflect your skills. Your customers want to see that you are living up to your claims in what you are hoping to sell them, or they will go elsewhere to buy from your competitors. This is truly the best way to make a great first impression on all visitors to your website so that they don’t leave immediately and increase your bounce rate.

Set Up Payments

The only way that you can sell services on your website is if you have one or several payment options to make it convenient for customers to buy from you. Perhaps one of the simplest choices is adding a PayPal button to your website, where customers will be able to pay you directly from their own PayPal accounts. Of course, this eliminates any customers that don’t have a PayPal account if you only accept PayPal as a form of payment exclusively, yet it makes it all the more convenient for those that do use their PayPal account to purchase through eBay or Amazon regularly. On the PayPal website, they will prompt you on the prices and how to set up different types of buttons, like “Buy Now”, “Add to Cart”, or “Subscribe”.

Plimus is another online option in a shopping cart for e-commerce stores, and it will give you global payment technologies, customer support, marketing tools, and a complete sales cycle for all purchases. Otherwise, you may want to try the user-friendly option of a pre-made shopping cart, such as Zencart or X-Cart. These are online shopping programs that allow you to affordably sell your services online, although they have limits in their customization if you want to add special features or change them to match the functionality of your website. Your choice of shopping cart will depend upon your own technical skills as to whether you would like to use a pre-made or customizable shopping cart.

Decide on Your Invoicing System

If you are selling services online, it is important to determine the type of invoicing system that you will use, whether it is hourly prices or fixed price packages. To further determine what your customers are looking for, you may want to set up split testing pages to see if customers are more likely to purchase hourly packages or fixed price packages of your services. Again, this is something that takes continuous testing and tracking to see which option will be most profitable for your business.

Establish Trust

Lastly, one of the best things that you can do to keep customers on your website and entice them to purchase from you is to advertise your credibility. Make sure that your privacy policy is posted clearly and have all details of your customer service information evidently displayed. It is a good idea to have testimonials and third-party recommendations, and make sure to always quickly respond to all customer questions to encourage them to order from you. Lastly, it is highly important to have a secure server to facilitate all credit card transactions so that customers know that their private data and information is entirely safe and free from potential theft.

The truth is that there are many components involved in running a profitable e-commerce business, yet it can be done successfully when you are committed to your entire online business plan. Much of the success of your sales and conversions has to do with the appeal and navigation of your website, as I detailed above, making it easy for customers to find which services they are looking for,  add them to their cart, and purchase from you in just a few simple steps. This is truly one area to focus on if you want a leg up on your competition because if customers have a difficult time purchasing services through your website, they are likely to simply leave and take their business elsewhere. Luckily, a loss of a sale can easily be prevented through the effort and care that you take in setting up your e-commerce store!

    Interesting article Nitin.

It is a very important point you made about the importance of a first impression. I see many people trying to sell things online that they are not properly using themselves. How is it going to translate to a client if you don’t practice what you preach.

Your example is spot on. Don’t sell wordpress themes if your site is not first well designed with a good theme.

Like you said, trust is one of the biggest factors for getting conversions online. Using trusted seals on your site is a great way to build instant trust. Seals like Honest Online, Truste, BBB, and SSL security seals are good places to start.

Another tip for making an ecommerce site successful is to make sure you research your market first and sell a product that your market already wants. This will make it much easier for you to make money than trying to force a product on the market. Cheers!

Having and displaying a privacy policy is important in building trust but you forgot an important part of establishing trust… The overall security of the website.

If your website gets Malware, will visitors return if you have they get the big red security warning from there browser when they visit your site? Probably not! So sign your website up for a website security plan. When you do, they will give you a shield to put on your site to show your customers that your site is secure and safe to shop from.

  3. Thanks for great post Nitin. I think that one of the methods how to build trust online is by getting other people viral testimonials. Viral testimonials is when people all over the web are taking about you and your service. I think this is the ultimate goal for any online marketer.

I have a good core of people that read my stuff, but they don’t follow me which is a bummer. How can I convince my followers to ‘follow me?”
I’d like to sell them stuff eventually, but how can I reach them so they feel that they need to ‘follow’ me?!

It’s crucial to build a strong reputation and have previous customers write testimonials. Many people fake testimonials but if you can provide a link it adds value.

Good idea Nitin…and addition to these tips..you can also sell your service to many freelance sites or crowdsourcing site where there are lots of company looking for talented individual online nowadays. And off course, winning a project is not that easy if you don’t have a feedback and ratings. The best thing you can do is build/create a good freelance profile with portfolio that will show you’re the right candidate for that task/position…hope this one could help too..
