Make Money Online by Diversifying Your Efforts

This article is guest posted by Chris Ruminski.

The internet is filled with thousands of different ways to make a living.  You can build websites for people, blog, write articles, sell photography, and so much more.  So why is it that people limit themselves to doing just one thing?  Complacency is a trap that people fall into after they have become successful with something.  Once they start bringing in a decent residual income, they lose their drive.  This is the time to move on.

Don’t Overdo It

If you are just starting out with the internet business and reading this article you may be thinking, “I’m going to do this, and this, and this.  Don’t.  You will only succeed in burning yourself out.  You won’t make much money in any of your endeavors because you can’t give them the proper attention.   It is important to stick with one or two things until they have matured and you are earning good money from them.  After that, it is time to move on.

Goals

Never underestimate the power of goal setting.  Goals can drive you to succeed if you set them correctly.  Don’t set your goals to high or you could become frustrated.  The name of the game is making them attainable.  They will give you something to strive for, and let you know what you need to work on.  This will help bring each project to maturity much quicker than before.  It is a way to self motivate when feeling unmotivated.

When to Move On?

As you move up in the ranks of the internet, it will become much harder to improve.   Competition becomes exponential and instead of competing with individuals, you start competing with corporations.  If you are up for this challenge then more power to you.  If not, it could be time to start a new project.

What Happens After I Move On?

Don’t confuse moving on with stopping work on that project.  You do need to tend to it occasionally or you will suffer a loss in earnings.  This is especially true for blogs because your readers expect you to write.  You are just going to focus a greater portion of your efforts elsewhere.  You may even want to start outsourcing some of your work.

Chances are that you are good at more than just one thing.  So why limit yourself to just one thing.  After creating a successful website or blog, you can build a new one and feed off of your first one’s success.  The possibilities on the internet are limitless if you have the strength of conviction.

Chris, sound advice. It is easy to get burned out trying to rank your site in search engines, using article marketing, create sites, learning about SEO, etc.

A lot of stuff to do, so little time.

Nice post… You have to put your hand into more then one making money resource.

That way if one fails, you have others to cover it.

  3. I really like the idea of using goals. If you take a piece of paper and write down about 3 goals that you want to achieve, then look at the piece of paper every few hours or so it can help you come up with ways to achieve them. Your brain is a powerful thing and your sub-conscious mind may cause you to do things to get towards your goals!

    Great Article.

It’s really helped me realize how you have to stick through it and keep with one thing. I’ve been boggled down lately with a ton of projects and this helped me realize that I need to slow down.

Hi, I’m so glad someone wrote an honest post on their blog. I have been working my butt off for over a year now and it’s true you do get complacent. I now have my own site and Yes, I’m still trying different things. Your blog has helped me out no end! With gratitude….

    Hey Chris,

Sound advice you’re giving there. I think most people tend to focus too much time on perfecting an only way to make money online. Eventually we get too comfortable with that one way and we tend to think that is the only way. I think one of the main reasons people fall into this trap is that they get complacent as you mentioned or getting too comfortable in their comfort zone.

    Cheers for the good article!
