I was reading through Melo Villareal’s blog about making money at home. A neat and presentable Manila Freelancer blog for all of us to enjoy. Looking at the overall view of the blog, it has a pretty decent page, optimized for its blog expansion with the 6 banner ads on the right above, and some of the advertisements and featured sites on the right below. Probably with a few hiccups in between on January 2007, March 2007 and October 2007, the rest of the months have been really consistently posted with articles. Looking at the archives page of his again, we can see a wide variety of posts in different topics. He has a great sense of link-baiting post titles indeed. We see Make-Money-Online post titles such as “Lose Weight while Blogging” and “Tips to Writing a Killer Website Copy“. Add that with a suitable picture for every post he has published, it makes the whole blog looks pleasing to the eye and hence I will want to read further.

Contents of the Blog

The contents are fun to read, with interesting topics such as telling us the truth of assembly jobs. In that single post, he is telling us about assembly jobs, what they are assembling, and what’s the problem with that job. There are a couple of posts which are sponsored. But these sponsored posts are quite well-done with the thought of understanding what the readers wanted to read as the readers build up their interest from there to click on the links to find out more. Be it sponsored or not, these posts are done with careful thoughts and understanding. I can conclude that Melo Villareal and his writers have a good sense of copywriting skills.

Structure of the Blog

This blog has fulfilled almost all of the common points of what a Make-Money-Online blog is consisting of.

1. 6 Banner Ads with the size of 125 x 125 to allow interested advertisers to advertise.
2. “About Me” page to allow new visitors to understand more about the blogger.
3. “Advertise” page to allow advertisers understand that this blog is open of advertising.
4. “Archives” page to allow interested readers to read further.
5. “Contact” page to allow feedback and to connect with the readers and advertisers.
6. “Popular Articles” which recommends the more popular articles to the first-time visitors.
7. Showing topics or categories that this blog consists of.
8. Showing the blogger’s face for being more personal with the readers.

The above pointers are indicating that any new visitor who chanced upon his blog, might be likely to come back again for more if the contents are right for him or her. In fact, in any blog, having the right contents to the readers might be the most important thing. But it is actually the structure of the blog which guides the readers through the contents.

Design of the Blog

With a great passion for photography, it’s no wonder that his blog design has a good color mix of blue, orange and green. Any frequent blog reader will not find it unfamiliar to understand his blog for the first time since he has organized the blog properly with colors. Furthermore, the pictures by the side of most of the posts makes the contents more appetizing to read further. Especially with the specially-chosen pictures being shown everywhere, it entices the readers to read without the problem of feeling loss in the blog.

Conclusion

Having to review this blog, it has almost everything that a blog should consist of. I am basically listing out some of the things that Melo Villareal has done to his blog for everyone to see. There are so many blogs out there which look quite similar in one way or another. But to pinpoint out the things that the bloggers have done which give them an edge, Melo Villareal has been able to identify them and implement them so well in his blog. This is something I will want to learn from him in my own blog too.
