The Costly Mistake That Many Bloggers Have Committed

By Carl Ocab Under Blogging, Make Money Online

I see a lot of bloggers giving the tip “Traffic now, monetize later” then telling that it’s more important to concentrate on getting traffic and building readership first BEFORE you monetize your blog.

I don’t agree.

Now here’s the 3 reasons why you SHOULD monetize your blog before even launching it:

Yes it is important to get traffic and build a good relationship to your readers…

But why not do it while monetizing your blog?

It only takes several minutes to setup some simple monetization for a blog – or if you’re like me who can’t figure out HTML, it’s going to take a couple of hours but after that it’s good to go :-)

Why you shouldn’t monetize your blog now

There’s a downside though.

Monetizing your blog can make you a bit statsaholic and make you check your Affiliate account/Adsense account from time to time. While you see cents everyday, it drives your focus of generating good content for your blog away.

But the way I see it, it’s a matter of discipline. Time will come, you’ll have to monetize your blog. So why not start disciplining your self to stop checking your accounts and prioritize tasks?

P.S. Thru some stroke of luck, I finally got an HD cam. HOOORAAH :-)

P.S.S. Please excuse the video, it’s weird. I tried this “Youtube style” video editing where they cut stall moments so it looks like you’re continually talking.

I think that most people should start monetizing their blog right away. Howver, make sure that the site doesn’t look over-advertised. As long as you keep a balance you should be good.

Why I heard that you shouldn’t monetize your blog (for the first 2 months) is that it’s faster to get up in the Search Engines. Then once you are in a nice spot on the first page, then you put those juicy ads in. I don’t know how true it is, but someone told me once that Google looks more favorably on blogs that don’t have ads.

P.S. I liked the video. It was fun! :)

The idea of posting “ads” won’t affect your rankings on Google, but I think people have been saying that because some ads links to other sites with html hyperlink.

Those links pass link juice therefore decreases the link juice on the page with ads.

First of all your HD video is looking good.
And for the post, it’s directly on point.
If you don’t monetize your blog. You will
not make any money. If you are just blogging
for fun, that’s ok to. But if you’re looking to
make a few dollars. Your blog must be monetize.

    Hello Carl,

You hit the bell man, yes I would agree with you that upon setting up your blog, we must monetize our blog upon marketing driving traffic to our site. But we must not forget not to overdo it. Am I right?

By the way, I like your video and it’s very funny. hhahaha….
Anyway, Thank you for posting this video of yours.

I think it is okay not to monetize from day 1.

When you get those 1000 visitors you can place ads and still make money, you just have to make it look clean and I think that is where most blogs fail. They just put some ads on, but they’re not making it good looking.

Yeah your right..why the need not to monetize it first before traffic. I also done it.when I launch a blog. it came together with the Ads.

I agree with your point that say that you must start placing ads when you just launch your website. I used to have a good number of readers when I first started my blog. But after I placed the ads, one-third of them were gone. I’ve learn from that and moved on.

i like the music at the end, lol
I was kind of conflicted about that topic, but i appreciate you bringing some clarity to the table.
but what do you mean when you say if you’re blogs not monetized when traffic comes then you’ve lost that traffic?

Carlo nice concept you got there on the video but to be honest alot of folks miss the point on blogging and monetisation and its a bit frustrating on first time bloggers, lets not delve into the nitty gritty of blogging, what more important is bloggers use every thing they can !

I am one of those people who believe on traffic first before monetization. Few months later, I regret doing this. This is a good advice for all beginners out there. There is nothing wrong with monetizing the site on day one.

    Yeah, I do agree.
    1. Create blog and add enough content to make it sticky.
    2. Put the ads in a balanced way and start promoting together.

yeah i agree, why not do both create traffic and monetize. Monetizing is just a simple tweak with widgets. I know there’s a lot of blog plugins out there to make monetizing blog easy…

    kudos carl…..
