What Makes YOU, a Successful Blogger?

By Carl on May 24, 2007

Upon reading my Feed Reader this hot afternoon, I asked myself: “What do these guys have that made them successful in such a way?! What do they have that we don’t? So I’ve been doing a little research and got some stuff on my head. Just to give a little reason what do these successful guys have.

Brand, brand, brand – I told this tons of time because honestly, the brand really matters. It’s just like the foundation of a company. Take Coca Cola for example: They had this new formula that got an A++ on the taste test (Better than the original) but when they sold it in the market, it failed, people still buy the same old Coke they love. Why? Because they got used to the same old Coke. It’s not the taste that matters. It’s the brand.

And by the way, did you know that in various taste tests, Pepsi almost always won over Coke? But… Coke almost always outsold Pepsi in every country. Brand. Brand.

It’s the same as in blogging. Actually I already have a post about this So to sum it all up, Successful bloggers have their own brand. They have their own twists. It’s the one making them popular. Not just the content. (Though content, is very important :D )

You have numbers, BIG numbers – Wow! Shoe makes tons of $$$! John Chow gets lots of spam :P comments in each of his posts!

What does this all mean? Didn’t you notice? Successful bloggers have big numbers to show. It maybe their Feedcount, their earnings or even the comments that they get. Big numbers, I can say, intimidate a lot of people.

Linklove! – If you haven’t heard about this, then maybe you’re just starting your journey on being a successful blogger.

Giving links to other bloggers is a way of socializing and making friends with each other. I mean, Think about it. You won’t lose anything if you give free links (A link wouldn’t hurt your PR :P and if your thinking about loosing traffic, you won’t. if the reader likes your blog, more likely he’ll come back) So always share love! Just imagine that you’re the one who is linked. I’m sure you’ll be happy!

You speak like one – Even though your not that good at what you are blogging right now, you can still be an “Authorityâ€? in that niche. Just speak like you’re a genius, a god in your niche. Let’s say for example, Mr. Chow. No offense but, I saw his blog from the start (Through archive.org), what did I saw? Food, he blogs about food THEN and even until now occasionally. My Dad even said his keyword should be “Make Food Online”! Now what makes him a “Make Money Onlineâ€? expert? He speaks and acts like one. You gotta show your readers what you want to be. Don’t try to make yourself a newbie (I’m not saying to fake yourself :P ) Chances are, newbies will get ignored unless you got a style. Tip here is, speak smart and act smart. Further explanations

Sleek Design
– Almost all Successful blogs have heir own “Professional Looking design. Honestly, people judge blogs through its design (Even though it’s bad to judge a blog in its design) because a blog’s design is like your dress when you go to a party. You dress like a punk. They’ll think that you’re a punk. You dress like a nerd, they’ll think that you’re a nerd. People always look at the cover first. So an attractive cover will always come in handy ;)

Contract with your self – I saw this post on Darren’s blog and found it interesting to share. It’s about making a contract with yourself. Successful bloggers receive truckloads of e-mails, right? They receive tons of guest blogging requests, right? They receive a lot of interviews, right? So how do they do those all things in just a day? And if they finish all that, will they be able to post?

Here’s a snip from Darren’s post that really hit me:

Being your own boss is great in many ways but one of the downsides is that you don’t have any one to be accountable to or to pull you into line when you lose focus.

When you don’t have someone that says you “Do this, do that or your fired! you won’t get anywhere and a great solution to that is signing a contract with yourself with a specific consequence if you didn’t finish the job and that contract “should be taken seriously because this contract will guide you through your blogging days. It should be a commitment.
So much for being a successful blogger. Now, don’t dream ok? Do it! Act now. Act like a Pro! You don’t what will happen tomorrow, maybe it’ll be you next!
