I use the first 3 methods a lot. But I guess another important “trick” is what Carl uses – invite Guest Posters to blog for him! It’s a symbiotic relationship and it really adds value to the blog readership/audience too.

I like number 4. Even though I focus on it a lot, I do it as an afterthought. Great suggestion on trying to rank for the search engines before you even are sure what you are going to write about.
Another one I am going to try to enact is writing more articles related to any product reviews I have written. Most products have multiple functions. Demonstrate with an article how a feature of the product can be done manually and then show how the software saves time.
It will be a worthwhile article on its own, plus a boost to the product review.
And this one is like number 3. Just write the crappiest post you can think of to break the spell of taking yourself too seriously.

Great post, I find that taking some time away from the computer, maybe take a shower or just get some fresh air, opens me up to new ideas.

Or sometimes I go through other blogs as you mentioned with good quality content and provide the same information to my subscribers and sometimes I add them to my blogroll.
