Just in case you’re not a reader of John Chow (Haha, that felt good – kiddin!), my article was posted there a week ago titled…
What Does It Take To Make You Subscribe To A Blog?
Basically, on that post I asked JC’s readers on what aspects of a blog that make them subscribe. As the one who asked the question, I started the conversation by giving my 4 reasons.
The response was to my expectation, it currently has 70 comments and pumped my RSS subscribers 200+.
The idea here is to collect the answers given by the readers and compile them in a monstrous list that will give bloggers the aspects to work on to make people subscribe to a blog.
Read the post and comment here if you’ve got something to add.
I read your guest post at John Chow, but I decide to post my comment here. Anyway, your question is not that tough for me to answer, as I am a subscriber of about 30 blogs including yours. However, it varies every now and then as I continue to add them and unsubscribe to some that I am beginning to dislike, even to my own friends.
Now, here is some of the things I am taking into consideration before I subscribe to a blog.
1.0 Minimal product reviews. For me, a blogger must analyze the frequency of his paid posts. Readers should be educated, not being invited to buy. If I want to buy something, I would go directly to the site.
2.0 Consistent blog topic. It is ok for me that I sometimes read an off-topic post, but if it is being rampant, I will not subscribe to that blog.
So I think that’s it.
Thanks!
hi carl, i can’t wait to see the monstrous list that you will be posting.. just want to add this one..
when the content tickles my curiosity, like when hearing that a “13-year old is making money online”.. something unique that though hurt my ego but in some ways inspire me to do things i should have done before.. so long buddy..
I had a chance to check out your post on John Chow’s blog. I honestly appreciated the fact that you included your friends’ blog on your list of reasons why you subscribe to blogs. That’s a reason I subscribe as well. I also find myself subscribing to blogs where I feel that I am reading valuable content, and where I feel I could receive more valuable content in the future.
i didnt know you made a post there. chow posts 3 times a day so maybe I have overlooked at it.. ;-)
Hi Carlo, I salute you for your blog. With regards to this post, I certainly agree to one or more of the comments above.
First, there should be minimal product reviews or none at all.
Second, the articles that are being posted is definitely in the specific niche of the blog. It won’t be good to have a financial freedom blog like mine then suddenly I will write about a list of Board Exam Passers just to do Search Engine Optimization just like other bloggers do. No offense to other bloggers doing this.
Third, the article should be enticing and unique.
So there for me are my reasons why do I subscribe to a blog’s feeds.
Nice way to increase RSS subscribers. I might my consider doing something like that since I’m participating in Blogging Idol 2 and I’m looking for ways to increase my subscribers. :-)
MMO or MMB blog always gather many visitor. What you need to do is provide great content and show the result. Then, people will come everyday. Then, no wonder if they choose to subsribe. :)
i love when the pages looks cool with the design
