My Best Blog Tip EVER Series – Liz Strauss

We’ve managed to snatch Nate Whitehill and Yaro Starak’s Best Blog Tip for this series and it seems like we’re on fire!
For today’s guest, we have a she, but not only that… because the other two bloggers who gave their best blog tip here have entrepreneurial blood flowing in their bodies, I’ve invited a woman with a different perspective on blogging, it’s not really about yourself, it’s also about “them” It’s about being generous and kind to others, please warmly welcome our first she blogger to gave her best blog tip: Liz Strauss from Successful-Blog:
My Best Blog Tip Ever is NOT the Content is King!!
When I put them all together, roll them up and think about it. One value stands out as the center of everything. If you want to have a blog that is successful and outstanding, keep you where it counts on the folks who read.
Just as you might pick the qualities you want in a future love or a university, decide from the start what qualities you want in your readers then go about building a blog that makes them feel that your blog is where they want to be. Choose your blog them with them in mind. Write content about what they’re interested in, when someone who comments respond as if he or she fits the bill perfectly.
Link to articles they want to read. Point them to other blogs they will find interesting. Build your blogroll with your readers in mind. Talk about them in your blog posts. Use them as examples. Quote when they say incredibly interesting things.
Make everything you about THEM not about you — even promotion. It seems to be a secret or some sort of scary thing, but it’s a fact nonetheless that best self-promotion is to promote other people, so why not your readers? They will appreciate it.
That’s it. My best blog tip ever. It’s a matter of generosity. It’s a fact of the universe that the more you give away the more that comes back to you.
New Feature Coming Next!
On the last issue, I asked for some suggestions from you guys, only several people replied but special thanks to Adsense Annie for giving me this wonderful idea.
To spice up the series, I will also ask the blogger his worst blog mistake EVER, we don’t have to do it again, we just learn from their mistakes!

Hey Carl!
Thanks for the lovely introduction. BTW, thinking only of your customers is also the best way to make money. Don’t think that I don’t know that. :)

You shouldn’t think about your customers, you should think LIKE your customers.

Liz, you make a great point. So many people start blogs that are diary-style and tend to ramble on about their lives. In order to attract readers (other than your mom and that funny aunt with all the cats), you really need to put out the content other people care about.
Carl, thanks for the call out and the link! Looking forward to seeing what people submit. :)

Hi Carl,
The article to me still smells like “Content is king!? In any publication, quality is determined by what the readers want to read. My physics professor can post complicated solutions that are enough to earn him a Nobel Price but I’m sure that only a handful of people will read it. Why? His market is very small. On the other hand, posting online resources for college students will naturally make you a favorite hangout of those kids as well as some parents and professors.
Content is king! Posting contents that are considered to be of prime importance for your target audience will naturally make you their ultimate resource page.

Liz definitely is correct with this tip. From my own experience, if you write enough QUALITY content, people will find your site and come back every day. I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t even really worry about keywords. I just write about what I think is important and people read my content…

Hey Vito!
You’re right! Content IS king, but only if it’s the content THEY want. :)
That’s the subtle difference.
Hiya, Annie!
Thanks Carlo!
Thank you, Carl. You’re a pleasure to work with. :)

Liz, nice post.
Agree with Annie, your posts are really straight to the point. I like it. ALSO agree with your point that no one cares on your personal life, except your mom.

Hi Scott!
By the time I knew what keywords word and how to use them, I already had enough posts on my blog that certain keywords had naturally established themselves. So I guess I’ve been the same way, never really worried about keywords. One hint that may have helped is that I learned early in my writing career to never start sentences with “There is” “It is” and to replace “it” and “that” with a noun whenever I could. :)
Hi Conrad Miguel!
I agree with you and Annie, too. :)

Great advice Liz … I will keep that in mind … blogging is hard work though … trying to satisfy everyone of your visitor’s needs … and keeping up with other projects

It’s not always that easy to make your blog about your readers. My blog is a record of my personal journey so that’s all about me! I’m not realyl sure what my visitors want as I haven’t sketched out a profile market – I’m simply telling my story to anyone who will listen!
