Learn How To Design Your Own Website
This post is sponsored by Web Design Development and posted by Charles Lau.
There are quite a couple of make-money-online blogs out there. Most of the bloggers don’t really teach you how to design your own website because they believe in outsourcing. But there are times when you just have to do it yourself. Times when you don’t have a budget to look for a web designer for your project… Times when you just feel like getting your hands dirty after outsourcing too much and making good amount of money online. There are just many reasons why we may be tempted to do our own websites.
Introduction
Today, I am going to review about Michael Dunlop’s website on Web Design Development. I had previously done him another website review about Retire At 21. Web Design Development is focusing on teaching us how to use common web designs on Adobe Flash, Photoshop and Dreamweaver. He also has a quick section on teaching people how to create a website.
Well-written Web Design Tutorial
Michael has written all the articles in a step-by-step format to teach us how to do certain web designs for our websites. He even takes the time to create screenshots to guide the readers to understand better visually. The articles are purposely with an introduction on top, and you can click “Read more” to read more about that particular article.
Let’s take one blog post of his as an example. Let’s look at this particular Photoshop Web Design Tutorial. I like this post particularly because he is teaching us step by step on designing a killer web design. And it is done very comprehensively with screenshots.
Web Designer Forums
Michael has made his effort to maintain a forum for its visitors to introduce themselves and to get themselves familiarize with web design. This forum looks like it is running healthily because its visitors are engaging themselves to be part of it. As I click through to find out each post, I can see Michael taking initiatives to ask some engaging questions to keep its visitors busy. That’s probably what a seasoned forum creator knows how to start and maintain a forum well.
Make Money Online By Creating Profitable Websites
Michael has a landing page, specially to guide the newbies how to start an online business. It is a very simple step-by-step process of getting your new website up from nothing. He even gave ratings and pricings of the different providers at different stage of making websites, till the stage of driving traffic and making your first dollar with your website. It is truly a cheat sheet for anyone who wants to start a website business as soon as possible.
Just by reading through this cheat sheet, we can quickly identify that Michael is making substantial money for himself for the last five years of his web design online business. He has done enough homework to find out all the different pricings for his online business.
Directory
Michael has installed a directory for all of us to submit links. It may probably allow us to submit articles in future. It can be featured for a certain amount of fee, or it can be free as a regular link. A pretty cool little program to have a pool of links related to his website. And this program could potentially help him to make additional money online as well.
Full RSS Feed
I was expecting him to provide a link to “read more” for every post in the feed. And when I subscribe to his feed, it actually comes with a full feed of the web design tutorials! Which means we get to see all the screenshots as well within our RSS reader.
Conclusion
As we can see, this website is obviously built by someone who has the experience with websites. It may look pretty new right now with probably a few months old today, it is already getting about 100 visitors engaged in their forum and commenting on the blog posts. It also has about 900 RSS subscribers shown in his About page. I have a strong feeling to believe that it is a whole new website revamp because it is already getting some page rank juice from Google.

Customizing a WordPress theme isn’t that difficult. I wrote a small how-to on this, including the image sources for Adobe Fireworks to give you a kick start. Some little changes can make your blog look completely different from the default.
You can read the article at http://www.techible.net/2008/09/wordpress-custom-theme-design/.

I’ve saved that Photoshop tutorial to my favorites. Will take a better look at it in the morning. I have never thought to create my own website from scratch. I tend to just use free templates but I would love to be able to get to the stage where I can make my own.
