ADvertiZe – Brand Specific Marketing

By Jan Verhoeff On May 29, 2008 4 Comments

With all the prattle on the Internet about adverizing and branding your market, you may be wondering what’s the truth. The reality is you must ADvertiZe to become successful. If your business isn’t branded, your advertizing may not work.

Seven easy ways to brand your business

  1. Stamp everything with your Brand – Put a logo on it and sprinkle your logo everywhere. In the labels, on the product, in the wrapper, on your business card, in your ads, on your website, in your ezine, label everything with your logo brand.
  2. Add a Signature Label – Give your product a signature that realigns the buyer to buy ALL products with that signature. Your signature or a famous signature, whatever you wish, but give them something to remember.
  3. Packaging Color – stamp your products with a color stamp that just says YOU. No matter what the color, if you focus your buyers on one color, they get used to it and look for it in the store.
  4. Capture Marketing – Using your target market, capture their interest with marketing identifiers that magnetically attract them to your product. These can be slogans, photos, or other similar attractors.
  5. Be Mysterious – Tell them what your product is and give them good descriptions, but be a little mysterious. Hint at additional support, information, or quality that is inside your package. Give them a little bit more.
  6. Seduction – Appeal to the greater value of your reader’s interest. You can simply state what you have to offer and trust your market to remember you, or you can appeal to their greater instincts and know they will come back to see you again.
  7. Be Consistent – Don’t change your brand frequently, or just because a different color is “in” this week. Stick out the brand you choose and stay with it all the time. For seasonal changes, add simple decorations, but keep the brand the same.

The clencher is to ADvertiZe your Business with BRAND Specific Keywords, Phrases and Graphics that attract your reader back to your website and constantly remind them of your product, EVEN when the keyword or phrase isn’t intended to be about your product.

Jan Verhoeff offers marketing strategies that work for online business development. You can achieve your goals with an Internet Business if you determine the Marketing Strategies you’ll use for Success and Follow them.

Attentionitis – Why Shorter Is Better

By Carl On May 19, 2008 13 Comments

At-ten-tio-ni-tis is a spreading disease on the internet that impairs a person’s ability to focus on a single webpage. This can be acquired by only a few hours of surfing or a few minutes hanging out on video sites like Youtube.

Answer the three questions below and after that you’ll find out if you caught this spreading disease…

Question number one

How much soil is there in a hole measuring one meter by one meter by one meter? (Answer below)

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

None, it’s a hole!

Question number two

A man dressed all in black is walking down a country lane. Suddenly a large black car without any lights on comes round the corner and screeches to a halt.

How did the driver know there was a man in the road?

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

It was daylight!

Question number three

A mute person goes into a shop and wants to buy a toothbrush. By imitating the action of brushing his teeth he successfully expresses himself to the shopkeeper and the purchase is done.

Next, into the shop comes a blind man who wants to buy a pair of sunglasses, how does he indicate what he wants?

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

He would simply ask.

What did you get?

If you have answered the three questions correctly then you are clear of Attentionitis but beware this is a contagious disease you might catch it from suffering patients.

If you have answered only one or two correctly then you are in the stage 2 of this disease, go get some tea to calm down and concentrate.

If you haven’t answered any of the questions right, I’m sorry but I can’t do anything for you, just read on.

Attentionitis everywhere!

When I logged in to Google Analytics a while ago, I checked one of my sites and saw a huge traffic spike yesterday. Looking at the traffic sources, Stumble Upon topped the leader board. Unfortunately, the bounce rate was horrible and the average time spent on the site is less than a minute! Imagine that.

A recent study was also conducted that people watching Youtube videos judge the whole video on the first 20 seconds. If those first seconds sucks, they’ll switch to the other video, if it’s entertaining then they’ll finish it.

With that said, we can declare that most people online has Attentionitis.

Cure?

Nope, at the moment, there’s no world wide cure going on so if you are selling or want to give a certain information…

“Do it shorter because less is more. Speed matters.”

On a side note, Blaise Pascal, a French mathematician and philosopher once said to his friend in a letter “I have made this letter longer than usual, only because I have not had time to make it shorter.”

But shorter is harder.

The 7 Great Lies of Network Marketing

By johnnieboy On May 16, 2008 8 Comments

This article is guest posted by John Rodica.

When Ann Sieg released a free report called, “The 7 Seven Great Lies of Network Marketing“, it created a varying array of responses from those inside the mlm industry. Both praises and criticisms came from all corners, making this short 35 page e-book even more controversial. Inevitably, the buzz caught on to its worldwide audience, which is why people are still talking about it until now. It was direct to the point, truly reaching the heart of those frustrated with their business.

The 97% failure rate in the network marketing industry just shows that those struggling simply gave up before they even attained their goal. Such crazy figures prompted Ann to expose the inefficient recruiting methods that many are so fed up with. It’s a fierced world out there, and being properly equipped with such knowledge early on offers a greater chance of success in this industry. Even those not in the mlm world would definitely appreciate this informative tool.

These statements may sound very familiar to you by now:

“Everyone is YOUR prospect!” “This Really Isn’t Sales. We just share products with people.”

“Anyone can do this!”

“We’ll build YOUR business for YOU.”

“We have the BEST product EVER!”

“You just don’t have enough belief!”

“The PROVEN system.”

You may be chuckling right now, reminiscing the times you’ve uttered or heard of such statements. Don’t feel bad, I was once guilty of sharing and falling for these mis-truths as well. Key word: “was.”

Just a word of warning: if you actually enjoy attending countless meetings, and following up with people that are “praying” you won’t ever bring up your opportunity again, this report may not be for you.

If you’re curious to peak into the other side of network marketing that your sponsor probably never told you about, Ann Sieg’s FREE e-book is going to be a treat. It gets my highest recommendation.

Referer Spamming – A Link Building Tactic…

By Carl On May 9, 2008 12 Comments

And I HATE it!

What is referer spamming anyway?

It’s gonna make webmasters red hot angry as this link building tactic spams your log files with fake referers that links back to the spammer’s website.

Analytics like Webalizer and Awstats that offer public display of stats are its main target – specifically, analytics that rank referer stats. With over thousands of fake hits they send to your website, there’s no way their site wouldn’t rank high in your logs. After ranking in your log, they get an easy free link.

Referer – that’s a single “r” by the way.

Referer spamming is not new at all, it’s been round for ages! It just so happen that the monster bit this lil’ blog. Not an ordinary spammer though, pretty tricky and well planned – although I’m not surprised at all, because spamming has also developed well over the years!

By morning today, I checked my WP stats dashboard for a quick view of my stats. Surprisingly, under the search engine traffic tab, x-rated keywords bombarded me. I checked Google Analytics for a detailed view and have a look on some of my keywords…

What this scum did was to spam me with fake referers from Google. Why? Well, to get my attention. His site (I’m not mentioning it) is on the first page of most these keywords. If he spams thousands of blogs with these then most likely webmasters will check if they actually rank for these keywords. The webmasters would eventually end up to his website if they google for that keyword. Pretty smart eh?

The solution

We don’t want people to mess up with our records, we need it to be as accurate as possible.

So to stop these kind of spam, you will have to add these few lines of code in your .htaccess file…

# Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://(www\.)?spammerdomain1.*$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://(www\.)?spammerdomain2.*$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://(www\.)?spammerdomain3.*$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://(www\.)?spammerdomain4.*$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://(www\.)?spammerdomain5.*$
RewriteRule .* – [F,L]

That will give the spammer a forbidden error when visiting with a referer of the listed domains.

In my case however, the spammer faked their referer as Google – obviously I won’t block that! I’d be a pure douche if I did :-)

Here’s the code to block results by their keyword…

# Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://(www\.)?.*(-|.)?keyword1(-|.).*$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://(www\.)?.*(-|.)?keyword2(-|.).*$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://(www\.)?.*(-|.)?keyword3(-|.).*$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://(www\.)?.*(-|.)?keyword4(-|.).*$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://(www\.)?.*(-|.)?keyword5(-|.).*$
RewriteRule .* – [F,L]

Sneaky link building tactic but can be blocked by one click. Bye fake referers!

Update: A guy emailed me asking if faking referer can be done via browsers. Well yes of course, here’s a Firefox plugin called Refcontrol. The risk is up to you ;-)
